A practical checklist for CRM data migration
The steps that decide whether a CRM migration builds trust in your data — or erodes it.
Start with the data you have
Before mapping any fields, profile the source data. Count records, measure completeness of key fields and identify duplicates. This tells you how much cleanup is realistic before go-live.
Agree on ownership and rules
Decide which system is the source of truth for each data element and which rules determine a duplicate. Write these rules down and have the business sign off.
Rehearse the migration
Run at least one full test migration into a sandbox. Let key users validate samples of records, and compare totals between source and target.
Plan the cut-over
Define a freeze window, the order of steps and a rollback plan. After go-live, keep a short hypercare period to resolve issues quickly.
